It has been two weeks now since the Florida Gators pulled the plug on Billy Napier. One of the realities that Florida fans braced for when Napier was fired was that the recruiting class of 2026 would be hit with a wave of decommitments, and the incoming coach would have to scramble.
And while there is still plenty of time for this class to fall apart, it's what hasn't happened in the past two weeks that is a sign that Florida's logo still carries weight.
Florida has zero decommits since Billy Napier has been fired
Florida has yet to have a decommitment since Napier has been let go. There are, of course, guys poking around, and one can guarantee that rival coaches are doing what they can to poach guys from signing, but Florida's makeshift staff has been able to keep the class in tact as of now.
Interim coach Billy Gonzales spoke on the staff's recruiting efforts during his Monday press conference:
"We're still actively recruiting our players. It's no different than anything else. We're still communicating on a daily basis, sending texts, sending emails, getting a chance to talk to them on the phone.
They're still Florida Gators. We're still Florida Gators coaches, and we're still recruiting our student-athletes to come to this university. It's a great opportunity. This is the University of Florida. We want to go out and get these players to come here. And they understand that part. This is a special place."
The comments from Gonzales are notable considering Napier and his staff didn't hit the road to recruit during Florida's first bye week, which Napier claimed was a pre-planned thing.
But it also highlights that Gonzales seems to genuinely want Florida to finish out the 2025 season in good shape, and he wants to hand the baton off to the new head coach with at least some feeling of momentum and at least some building blocks to work with.
As Saturday's loss to Georgia showcased, the roster for Florida isn't "that" far off from contending with the upper tier of college football.
So, whether it's NIL money, recognizing there will be opportunities in 2026, or just plain respect for the Gator logo, Florida's class of 2026 has stayed intact as of now.
