Transfer Portal fireworks for the Gators, landing three transfers over the weekend

Florida Gators land three transfers over the July 4 weekend, including Ole Miss infielder, Ethan Surowiec

Florida Gators baseball had an exciting weekend in the transfer portal. Ole Miss infielder, Ethan Surowiec; Columbia shortstop, Sam Miller; and Lenoir-Rhyne catcher, Cole Stanford all pledged their commitments to the Gators over the fourth of July weekend.

Ethan Surowiec, IF

Surowiec, transferring from the Ole Miss Rebels, is a 6’1” incoming sophomore from Gulfport, Mississippi. In his freshman year at Ole Miss, he batted .375, with a .750 slugging percentage and a .524 on base percentage. In 11 games (three starts), he hit two home runs, drove in eight RBIs and had five runs scored. 

In the field, Surowiec had 11 putouts.

What really attracted Florida to Surowiec was his summer league performance with the Duluth Huskies in which he hit .427, with 15 doubles, seven home runs, and 36 RBIs through 96 at-bats.

Sam Miller, SS

Miller, transferring from Colombia University, is a 6’0”, 205lb incoming senior from McMurray, Pa. The Psychology Major is a two-way infielder and right-handed pitcher.

Over the course of three years with Colombia, at the plate Miller batted a combined .340, with a .619 slugging percentage and a .402 on base percentage. He has 25 doubles, two triples, and 31 home runs (16 of those coming in 2025). He drove in 117 RBIs (57 in 2025) and had 101 runs scored (50 in 2025). 

Miller has not pitched since 2023. When he did, he was 0-0 with a 4.82 ERA over the course of 9 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out five.

Cole Stanford, C

Stanford is another incoming senior, with 2025 marking his redshirt senior year. The 6’0”, 215lb catcher from Ellerslie, Georgia batted .338, with a .620 slugging percentage, and a .436 on base percentage in three years with Lenoir-Rhyne. In those 150 games played, he had 30 doubles, 39 home runs, with 135 RBIs and 54 runs scored.

2025 was a breakout year for Stanford, as he hit 18 doubles, 20 home runs, drove in 56 RBIs, and 54 runs scored, all up from 2024.

In the field, in 2025 he had 383 putouts, and had a .985 fielding percentage.

After an early exit from the postseason, the Gators are looking to add depth to their roster during the offseason as they look forward to the 2026 season.
