With the North Carolina basketball job still open, the Todd Golden rumors that appeared to be dead in the water are trying to be revived again by the people at Barstool Sports. By this point Golden's name is going to come up for every job of a perceived "blue blood" program.

But Golden wasn't taking the bait from Dave Portnoy and instead talked about how happy he was coaching the Florida Gators.

"I'm very happy to be at Florida and see how this thing goes," Golden said.

North Carolina continues to search for a coach after Arizona's Tommy Lloyd signed a contract extension with the Wildcats a day before their Final Four clash with Michigan.

Todd Golden tells Barstool why it's great to be a Florida Gator

Golden is in Indianapolis for the games, along with many other coaches, but he made it clear that he'd rather be coaching and continuing the defense of the title Florida won in 2025 instead of watching from the coaches' hospitality room.

"Florida is an everything school. It's a great place to coach and a great place to recruit at.

However, the 40-year-old coach said that being at Florida gives him the best chance to return to the biggest stage in college basketball next year because of the support he gets from the administration and the resources that are provided.

"I think every day you kind of re-calibrate and think about where you are and how things are going and what you're doing," Golden said. "I'm incredibly fortunate at Florida right now. We've obviously had great success. I have great support, mainly from an NIL and revshare perspective, to make sure that we can continue to recruit the types of guys that we need to try to play this weekend."

Golden signed a contract extension last year after leading the Gators to their third national championship in the past 20 years. He has averaged 29 wins over the past three seasons and is focused on re-loading for another deep tournament run in 2027.
