Three things that stand out about Florida Football’s schedule for 2025
The schedule for Florida Football has been released, and we knew going into it who the 12 opponents for Florida would be and where those games would be played. The only thing we didn't know prior to last night's release was when the games would be played and when Florida would get their bye weeks.
So it's with that in mind that, we have three notable observations about how Florida's schedule is structured for 2025.
Florida can "ease" into the season
One of the very real critiques about Billy Napier from the 2024 season is that his depth chart against Miami and against Texas A&M was abysmal in retrospect. Guys like Kamryn Waites, Taylor Spierto, and DJ Douglas were getting 30+ snaps, and part of why Florida stabilized late in the season is they finally had their best players getting the bulk of the snaps.
Florida opens with Long Island and USF before going on the road against LSU. Hopefully, in those first two games, Billy Napier and crew can figure out who is ready and who is not and have the best players on the field in Death Valley.
Florida's opponents all get tune-up games before playing Florida
This was a bit of a theme last year when Florida felt like they were always playing an opponent coming off of a bye, but in 2025 few opponents on the schedule have to play a quality opponent the week before taking on Florida.
The following is who each opponent is facing the week before playing Florida:
- Long Island - Opening week
- USF - Boise State
- LSU - Louisiana Tech
- Miami - USF
- Texas - Sam Houston
- Texas A&M - Mississippi State
- Mississippi State - Bye
- Georgia - Bye
- Kentucky - Auburn
- Ole Miss - The Citadel
- Tennessee - New Mexico State
- FSU - TBD
So, of Florida's eight SEC games, six will be against a team that is either coming off a bye or played a G5/FCS team the week before.
Deja Vu
We are not going to do the whole win/loss prediction thing in December, but if you were to eyeball the schedule, there is a pathway 2025 could play out a lot like it did in 2025.
However, the four-game stretch of LSU, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M could go south in a heartbeat if Florida isn't on top of their game.
It's entirely possible Florida goes into the second bye week 4-3, and if they lose to Georgia, it will drop them to 4-4, the same spot they were in this year before finishing the season 3-1.
