The schedule for Florida Football in 2025 will be mostly the same as in 2024. The Gators will have rematches with ten of the twelve teams they saw last year with the hopes of making a push for the playoffs in 2025.
The one key difference is the home sites for all those games have been flipped, and the order of those games has been flipped. It's with that in mind that these are the three most significant games on Florida's schedule that will ultimately tell the tale of their 2025 campaign.
LSU - 9/13
The inspiration for this list is a list ESPN put together this week that deemed Florida's trip to Baton Rouge as the most significant game of the season for Florida in 2025.
It's debatable whether it will be the single most important tilt of the season, but what isn't debatable is that it will set the tone for how much goodwill Billy Napier gets in 2025.
One of the massive problems for Napier in 2024 was faceplanting right out of the gate. In 2025, Florida will get the benefit of playing LIU and USF before taking on LSU.
A win against LSU would set the tone that Florida might just be on the right path for real. A loss, particularly a blowout, and Florida will be left trying to dig out of a hole once again.
Georgia - 11/1
We can muse all we want about how Florida would have beaten Georgia last year if DJ Lagway didn't get hurt, but the reality is that Napier is 0-3 against the Bulldogs and has been outscored by an average of 19.6 points in that time span.
Like it or not, Georgia is the measuring stick by which Florida and Napier are judged.
Beat Georgia, and making the playoffs in 2025 is a very real possibility.
If Napier can't get past Georgia even with Lagway, it's fair to ask when he would ever get by them.
Tennessee - 11/22
Tennessee was the other team Florida had dead to rights in 2024 and let it get away. Coaching malpractice was to blame in Knoxville last year, and the unfortunate part is that had Florida beaten Tennessee and Georgia, and all other results had stayed the same, the Gators would have been in Atlanta for the SEC title game.
So, if 2025 goes the way that Napier and crew hope it goes, there is a pathway Florida could be 8-2 when Tennessee comes to town. Depending on how the season is going for the Volunteers, November 22nd could be a playoff eliminator game.
And frankly, if Florida isn't in the playoff race, the game against Tennessee could be a last-gasp effort for Napier to save himself in Gainesville.
