Three crucial stats for Florida Basketball ahead of matchup with Wake Forest
After a little bit of a break, Florida Basketball returns to the court today in Kissimmee to take on Wake Forest as part of the ESPN Events Invitational. The winner will take on the winner of Minnesota or Wichita State.
The Gators are 6-0 on the season while Wake Forest is 6-1. The Gators are ranked 18th in the current AP Poll and have an RPI of 40, while Wake Forest has an RPI of 95th.
Here are three keys for Florida to keep their undefeated season going at 2:30 PM on ESPN.
Three-point shooting
The Gators did shoot 41% from three in their last outing, and they are going to hope to carry that percentage to the Happiest Place on Earth as their season-long percentage of 31.8% is still 227th in the country.
Wake Forest however is an even worse three-point shooting team and at 29.1% they are 290th in the country.
Pass the ball
Florida has never been a high-assist team in the Todd Golden Era, and that is a trend that is continuing in 2024/25. Florida is getting an assist of 51% of their made baskets, which is 191st in the country. For the most part Florida has been able to lean on their ability to drive to the basket to score.
Well, Wake Forest is vulnerable to leaving an open man is opponents are getting an assist on 56.9% of made baskets. That is 262nd in the country.
Draw fouls
Given that Florida does drive to the basket a lot to get their points, they are drawing a foul on 26.6% of possessions, good for 105th in the country.
Wake Forest, meanwhile, has done a decent job of not committing fouls this season. They are only committing a foul on 22.4% of possessions, which is good for 84th in the country.
