One of the hallmarks of the Billy Napier Era is that Florida Football always seems to take one step forward, followed by one step back. It's a never-ending cycle that has repeated itself once again as Will Harris is set to leave the Gators and head down south to join Miami.

It's weird timing and brings about questions as to how exactly this happened. The following are three burning questions we have following his departure.

Did not getting promoted to "Co-DC" impact this move?

Within the last month, Napier brought Vinnie Sunseri

and Robert Bala to the staff and gave them both "Co-DC" titles. Both have minimal experience in their own right and while we expect both of them to just take orders from Ron Roberts, titles do have meaning when it comes to everyone else who doesn't have a title.

It's also possible Napier had zero faith Harris was going to stay as it was heavily rumored he was looking around, and thus he didn't want to give a "Co-DC" title to someone he thought might leave.

Why can't Napier keep cohesion on his defensive staff?

One of Napier's selling points is keeping cohesion and being focused on a process. But while he has had mostly cohesion on the offensive side of his staff, his defensive staff looks nothing like it did even two years ago.

Mike Peterson is the only remaining member of his 2023 defensive staff. With Harris leaving, Florida will have their third defensive backs coach in four years. That's in addition to three different defensive coordinators, and three different inside linebackers coach now that Bala is in town.

Will players and or recruits look elsewhere?

In one regard, losing a defensive backs coach isn't the end of the world. However, one consequence of the fallout is the possibility of some players on the roster coming to Gaineville because Harris is looking elsewhere.

Likewise, commits like Jaelen Waters might be tempted to follow Harris down to Miami.
