There is a lot of positive momentum for the Florida Gators heading into the 2025 season. Billy Napier and crew peeled off a four-game winning streak to close out 2024 and seem to have pieces in place to make a run.
But those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and if Florida wants to do better than 8-5 in 2025, these are mistakes they can't repeat from 2024.
Predictable playcalling will doom the Florida Gators
One of the biggest topics of conversation for Gator fans during the Billy Napier Era has been whether or not his playcalling is dynamic enough to win in the SEC.
We here at Hail Florida Hail are obviously noted critics of Napier and his playcalling. One thing we have pointed out in the past in that his ten years as either a D1 offensive coordinator or as a D1 head coach, Napier has only had an offense finish in the top 25 in points per game once.
But if you don't take our word for it, take the word of opposing coaches who have to prepare their defenses for Napier.
When Miami beat Florida to open the 2024 season, their defensive coordinator admitted after the game how easy it was to stop Florida:
"We took their top five to seven plays that showed up in every game last year: a reverse, crossing routes, tailback screens—and I'll be danged if in the first four or five plays those things showed up"
