These Florida stats hardly seem real, but prove the Gators are ready for back-to-back titles

The Florida Gators began their campaign for back-to-back National Championships in explosive fashion.

Anyone who was doubting that the Florida Gators hava real chance to go back-to-back this season as National Champions just got proved wrong in the best way possible. In their first round matchup against Praire View, the one-seeded Gators set multiple records in their 114-55 win.

Even though this was a one-seed vs. 16-seed, other one-seeds seemed to struggle in the first round against their opponents. The Gaotrs, on the other hand, took care of business early, and it was so impressive that everyone believes in their repeat campaign.

Florida sets multiple records in first round of the NCAA Tournament

Florida scoring 114 points is the first time the feat has been done since 2007, when the Tennessee Volunteers did it against Long Beach State, but the Vols actually dropped 121 on the Sharks back then. However, the Gators' margin of victory, which was 59 points, is the second largest in the men's NCAA Tournament history.

One of the more impressive records, though, is that the Gators covered the spread as 35.5-point favorites easily; they had covered it by 23 points, making it the largest cover since 1999. The Gators could have come out slow in the late window on Friday night, but instead set the tone for their run this March.

While this is a different team than the one that won the title last year, the Gators finished the regular season strong with a huge win streak, and even though they didn't win the SEC Tournament, Florida is on a tear.

Now, the second round matchup for the Gators, which is a nine-seeded Iowa team, probably won't be quite as easy for Florida as Prairie View was, as the Hawkeyes have hit their stride as of late. However, if Florida can go out and simply play a clean game of basketball, it can be one step closer to a repeat.
