Even if one doesn't follow the Jacksonville Jaguars, most Gator fans are aware that the annual meeting with Georgia has to move in 2026 and 2027 due to renovations to EverBank Stadium. Those same renovations mean that the Jaguars have to find a new home, too.
And while The Swamp was a potential option for the Jaguars to set up shop in, it looks like Jacksonville in going to head even further south to the Happiest Place on Earth to play their 2027 home games.
Jacksonville Jaguars to play in Orlando and not Gainesville in 2027
Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel reported that the Jacksonville Jaguars will play their home games in Orlando in 2027. This was amid speculation that Jacksonville might try to work a deal with Florida to play its games in Gainesville.
The Swamp would have made sense from the standpoint that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is only a 90-minute drive from EverBank Stadium, so fans in Jacksonville would have still had the option to go see the Jaguars in person.
Camping World Stadium, meanwhile, is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Jacksonville, and we can't imagine too many fans making that drive multiple times a year.
But playing at Camping World Stadium compared to The Swamp also has its advantages. For starters, the Jaguars won't have to share the stadium with anyone else until bowl season in college football, so they can deck it out with Jaguars signage and actually make it feel like home.
Plus, there is the hope of attracting fans in Orlando to show up, which does provide a much larger metropolitan market to draw from than Gainesville.
NFL owners will still have to sign off on the move, though it would be a shock to see them deny the move. Camping World Stadium is also set to undergo its own $400 million renovations this December, which should be finished by the time the Jaguars come to town in 2027.
