The highly anticipated Florida vs Georgia game just got that much more interesting after week seven of college football. Florida took down No. 7 Texas 27-24 on the road in Austin; unranked Auburn defeated No. 1 Georgia 27-24 with a fourth-quarter field goal to seal the win.

With Florida’s win, they improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play. With Georgia’s loss, there are now no undefeated teams left in the SEC as they fall to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the SEC. Florida will head into the bye week and week nine with momentum, while Georgia enters the bye week with multiple question marks and its sails blown out.

To make matters even more interesting, with Everbank Stadium being renovated, this year’s meeting between the Bulldogs and Gators will be a “home” game for Georgia in that it is being held this year at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia so it will be no easy task for the Gators to go into Georgia. But nonetheless, they have a chance, and now they know that the Bulldogs are not invincible. Gunner Stockton revealed weaknesses and flaws in his game, and a growing Florida defense will know where to attack.

One thing is certain: The “World’s Largest Cocktail Party” is set to be WILD. Cue the cocktails, cue the party; the atmosphere in Atlanta is going to be crazy in two weeks.

Florida gains momentum ahead of Georgia

If Florida defeats Georgia in two weeks, Florida would improve to 4-2 in conference play, and Georgia would fall to 4-2, and Florida would have the head-to-head.  The impact and weight of the Week 7 results just took the 105th annual meeting between Florida and Georgia, made the implications of that game massive, and raised the stakes even higher.

Florida will likely re-enter the college football rankings after Week Seven finishes, but Georgia should remain well above the Gators in the standings. However, should Florida pull off what would be their second massive upset in a row, they could hurt Georgia’s chances of an automatic bye and their chances in general of a playoff appearance.

The question for Jon Sumrall now will be: how do you use Tramell Jones if Aaron Philo is healthy? The good news is that he has two weeks to figure that out.

The Gators dropped the 104th matchup in 2025 to Georgia 24-20 and have not defeated Georgia since 2020, when they took down the Bulldogs 44-28. They will look to end Georgia's five-game win streak in the annual matchup. Florida has been close in recent years, but has come up just short.

Heading into today, most would have picked Georgia and not thought twice.

But things change quickly in college football and these next two weeks will have plenty of storylines to follow.
