When it was reported that Florida QB DJ Lagway was going to take his talents to Baylor, it seemed like a great fit all around. Lagway would get to return to his home state and play for the school his father played at, while Gator fans didn’t have to deal with the awkwardness of turning Lagway into a pariah.

Well, a new report just came out that Lagway to Baylor is not a done deal just yet, and the new school he is taking a look at would create a reunion between Florida and Lagway in 2026.

DJ Lagway is taking a visit to Ole Miss

Pete Thamel of ESPN has reported that even though Lagway has a verbal commitment with Baylor, nothing official has been signed. As such, he is continuing to explore his options, and On3 has reported that Lagway is going to take a visit to Ole Miss this weekend.

The Rebels were just knocked out of the playoffs by Miami and learned on Friday that their star QB, Trinidad Chambliss, would not get a 6th year of college football after the NCAA denied his attempt at a medical waiver for the 2026 season.

The irony of Ole Miss needing a QB for 2026 is that even if Chambliss doesn’t win his appeal, they had Austin Simmons waiting in the wings. But Simmons has also entered the transfer portal, which opens the possibility of Ole Miss getting Lagway.

Simmons and Lagway are both intertwined from recruiting when Florida had both players committed, and Billy Napier kept claiming there was a plan in place to get both on campus. Simmons reclassified by two years and flipped his commitment from Florida to Ole Miss. In exit interviews, his father made a quip, “But the schedule is too tough, and they want DJ Lagway.”

If Lagway wound up at Ole Miss, it would create a reunion between Florida and the Rebels. Florida will host Ole Miss in The Swamp on September 26.

If we had to bet, we would still predict that Lagway winds up at Baylor. But in the modern world of college football, no one can ever be sure.
