This Saturday, the Florida Gators are going to travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss. Florida is hoping to keep its hopes of a bowl game alive, while the Rebels are looking to lock up a playoff bid.
Yet whether Ole Miss wins by 30 or Florida pulls off the upset, the real winner of the Lane Kiffin Bowl isn't going to be decided until after the final whistle.
Florida trying to lure Lane Kiffin to Gainesville
The Gators are 14.5-point underdogs, and after getting demolished by Kentucky, that might be generous. The real backdrop of this game is going to be whether or not Lane Kiffin is going to follow the Gators back to Gainesville after the game is over.
Kiffin has been the frontrunner in the eyes of Florida's administration, and Kiffin himself hasn't exactly shut down rumors that he could jump to Gainesville. Unlike multiple other coaches around the country, Kiffin hasn't signed an extension and has allowed this saga to continue.
During his press conference earlier this week, Kiffin was again asked about the rumors of him going to Florida. He shrugged those off and was later asked about Florida and Ole Miss fans feuding online over Kiffin:
"I don't read all the stuff. Somebody was just saying that today, one of our student assistants explained to me, the fans are going back and forth. And they said, 'I think there's a new rivalry, Ole Miss fans and Florida fans, and they should just put a steel cage somewhere and let them fight it out.'"
But this is Lane Kiffin we are talking about, who is online all the time and loves to repost stories about himself. There is a non-zero chance you might be reading this right now, Lane.
There is also zero chance he isn't aware of the two fanbases fueding, and he could put an end to it in a heartbeat.
Who knows, since he is the ultimate troll, maybe he is waiting until his post-game interview to announce an extension.
Or maybe he is going to New York to coach Jaxson Dart.
Either way, the real winner of the Lane Kiffin Bowl won't be decided until after the game is over on Saturday.
