After a wild past week and a half that has centered around Florida's search for a new coach, the Gators do have an important football game to play this Saturday. Florida takes on Georgia in the game formerly known as the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, and because Billy Napier is no longer the coach in Gainesville, there is renewed hope the Gators can knock off the Bulldogs.
And while Georgia doesn't have a ton of weaknesses, there is one notable stat that jumps out that Florida has to try and take advantage of.
Florida hopes to keep DJ Lagway upright
Georgia is 130th in the country in sack percentage and gets to the QB just 2.39% of passing attempts.
Add in the fact that Georgia also intercepts opposing passes just 1.47% of passes, which is 102nd in the country, and there is a pathway for DJ Lagway to get into rhythm in this game.
Georgia does have a stout run defense, giving up just 3.2 yards per rush, 16th in the country, but its pass defense allows a completion rate of over 60% and 6.9 yards per completion, both of which are outside the top five in the country.
New look offense
Interim coach Billy Gonzales has stated that he wants to try to open up the offense for Florida a bit more. The benefit for Florida in firing Napier when it did is that Georgia will be going into Jacksonville a bit blind.
Ryan O'Hara is going to be the play caller for the Gators, and he did call plays for the 2nd team offense during the spring game, but since there is next to zero public film on him, there are a ton of possibilities for what Florida could pull out of its sleeve.
Florida has lost seven of the previous eight Florida/Georgia games. This was after a long stretch from 1990 through 2010, where Florida dominated the series before Kirby Smart took things back over.
But if last year is any indication, Florida has the horses to keep up with Georgia. And with a couple of tweaks to the offense, anything is possible this Saturday in Jacksonville.
