Stephen A Smith is ruthless towards FSU after being beatdown by Florida Football
It was an excellent night for Florida Football on Saturday. The Gators picked up their seventh win of the season and officially put FSU out of their misery in 2024. After the game, George Gumbs planted a flag at midfield that set off a scuffle and drew whining and moaning from FSU coach Mike Norvell.
As they say in sports, though, if you don't like it, then try winning next time. Prominent sports personality Stephan A Smith was in no mood to feel sorry for FSU after the incident.
Florida Football: Mark your territory
Appearing on First Take, the panel launched into a discussion about flag planting, as several teams who pulled off a rivalry road win on Saturday took to midfield to mark their territory.
Norvell had some choice words after the game:
"Told him what I thought. They won the game and they have the right to celebrate just like we have in the previous years. This is the way that you operate? That's fine. You want to come do that? That's absolutely your decision that you can have within a team.
But I just told him what I thought."
Smith was not impressed by FSU's response and thinks they have much deeper problems than just someone planting a flag on their field:
"Mike Norvell, you got a problem with Billy Napier. Well, first of all, he didn't know his players were going to do that. (Napier) spoke out adamantly against it in the post game conference.
But really, was it about the flag planting, or was it about the fact you got your ass kicked and you're 2-10 on the season at Florida State?"
Smith went on to highlight the downfall of the Seminoles in 2024, who went from a 13-1 campaign in 2023 and a preseason ranking of 10th to becoming one of the worst Power Four teams in the country this past season.
Florida moved to 7-5 on the season and is awaiting to find out which bowl game they will attend this postseason.
