The first pitch for Florida Baseball is a little over 48 hours away, and as is the case with any opening day, there are still some loose-end question marks that need to be answered. Some of those questions still might not truly be answered even after first pitch as Kevin O'Sullivan will tinker and tweak his lineup as the season progresses.
However, one component for Florida that seemed obvious heading into the season has been officially set in stone, as Florida announced that Liam Peterson, Jake Clemente, and Pierce Coppola would be Florida's weekend starters.
Liam Peterson
Peterson was thrown straight into the fire last season as a true freshman and had an up-and-down season. The end result was a 3-6 record with a 6.43 ERA, with 77 strikeouts against 44 walks.
He was starting to put it all together towards the end of last season and had a massive start against Kentucky, where he went six innings and gave up just one run. He followed that up with back-to-back starts against Georgia and Nebraska, where he went over five innings with less than three runs in each start.
But his final three starts didn't go well, as he got shelled by Clemson in the Super Regionals and in both starts against Texas A&M in the College World Series.
Jake Clemente
After being a bullpen guy last year, Clemente is ready to step up into a starter's role in 2025. He made 19 apperances last year for 28.2 innings of work and a 5.34 ERA.
Clemente has a big-time fastball and was ranked 102nd in the nation per Perfect Game in the class of 2022.
Pierce Coppola
Injuries have derailed his time in Gainesville, but the hope is that if he is healthy he can live up to the top 50 billing he had coming out of high school.
Coppola was inserted into the rotation towards the end of last season and his best outing came in the College World Series against Kentucky when he went five innings and gave up four runs.
He finished last year with eight starts for 23.2 innings pitched and a 8.75 ERA.
