When pursuing offensive linemen, it’s crucial to get guys who are right for the job. Recently the Gators have signed players like Harrison Moore from Georgia Tech, TJ Shanahan from Penn State, and Emeka Ugorji from Stanford, along with high schoolers Desmond Green (South Carolina), and G’Nivre Carr (IMG Academy in Florida).

The Gators are now in pursuit of a Ram with pride and dedication to protecting his QB. Head Coach Jon Sumrall and offensive line coach Phil Trautwein paid a visit on Wednesday to class of 2027 four-star prospect, Sean Tatum.

Tatum, 6’5”, 315lb is a junior at John Carroll Catholic High School in Fort Pierce, Florida. 247Sports composite ranks Tatum as the No. 170 overall prospect and the No. 8 offensive guard in the 2027 recruiting class.

Tatum was high on the Gators’ recruiting list during the Billy Napier Era and not much has changed since. Last month he was officially re-offered by Trautwin and the Gators. On Wednesday, joined by John Carroll Athletic Director, Mickey Groody and the staff at John Carroll High School, he met with Sumrall and Trautwein in Fort Pierce, and noted he will be making another trip up to Gainesville this weekend.

“It’s still one of my top schools,” Tatum told 247sports.com.

Tatum is a true tank in the middle who is quick to make a decision, make the defense stop in their tracks, and allow his running backs like Jeremy Pittman to burst up the middle for a big run.

His four-star rating is definitely a fair one. and Tatum’s ability to pave the way were a big part of Pittman’s success in 2025 and what helped send the Rams to the postseason this past season.

The Gators aren’t the only school chasing ESPN’s No. 123 prospect out of Fort Pierce, FL. He also has offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, FSU, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF, Appalachian State, South Florida, FIU, Toledo, and Western Kentucky.

But Florida is certainly high on his list as he is expected to make another trip up to the Swamp this weekend.

Should the Gators sign Tatum, they’re not just getting a great player, they’re gaining a great guy. Tatum is a true class act on and off the field. He represents all that John Carroll High School is about in being humble, a team player, and whole all around package on and off the field.
