Florida Football is continuing its investment in Russ Callaway, promoting him to offensive coordinator ahead of the 2025 season. Callaway, who previously served as Florida’s tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator, has steadily climbed the ranks since joining the program in 2022 as an off-field analyst.
This marks the third consecutive promotion for Callaway, as his influence in Gainesville continues to grow each season. While head coach Billy Napier will continue as the team’s primary play-caller, Callaway is expected to take on an expanded role in game planning and offensive development.
Callaway’s impact has been evident over the past two seasons. In 2023, he took on tight-end coaching duties, and in 2024, he was promoted to co-offensive coordinator. Prior to the Gators, Callaway worked with LSU, the New York Giants, and Samford.
Napier has always spoken highly of Callaway throughout the years and this move to promote him on paper wasn't unexpected.
In 2024, Florida was 48th in yards per play but 64th in points per game. Callaway does have an Air Raid background from his time with Samford and the hope is that he can implement some of his passing concepts into the offense to continue to showcase DJ Lagway in 2025.
Florida returns four starters along the offensive line as well as both starting tight ends. Jadan Baugh and Ja'Kobi Jackson at running back are also back. The one true question mark for the Gators is at wide receiver. Eugene Wilson is back, and Florida did pick up J.Michael Sturdivant out of the transfer portal. Aiden Mizell is expected to compete for the third receiver slot, but expect true freshmen Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown to also compete for snaps.
Florida kicks off their season again LIU and USF before having to travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU.
