Power Ranking Florida's head coaching candidates after Week 12

Lane Kiffin is still No. 1, but who should Florida pivot to if he falls through?

Now that the Lane Kiffin Bowl is over, the mystery of who Florida is going to hire as its next head coach continues to ramp up.

As we have done the past two weeks, we are ranking the top ten coaches we personally at Hail Florida Hail would want to see the Gators hire.

This isn't a list based on who they will actually hire or who is closer than others; it's simply who we think is the best fit in Gainesville.

No. 10 Eli Drinkwitz - Missouri

No movement here as Missouri did what they are good at and cruised past Mississippi State this weekend. Nothing has changed our mind on Drinkwitz as he continues to prove he can't be a top ten team to save his life.

No. 9 Jon Gruden - Barstool Sports

There was an early pie-in-the-sky wish from some fans with Gruden, but there has been zero momentum to get him to Florida.

What's interesting is that there has been minimal to zero momentum for him to wind up anywhere despite his openly pleading for a job.

No. 8 James Franklin - Penn State

It seems like James Franklin is going to wind up at Virginia Tech, and that is a great spot for him.

No. 7 Brent Key - Georgia Tech

There was some buzz this week when the UAA plane made a stop in Atlanta.

Was it for Brent Key or something else? Who knows.

But as we said, he just doesn't feel like a great style fit for Florida, and his Yellow Jackets had to squeak by a lifeless Boston College team this weekend.

No. 6 Jeff Brohm - Louisville

Some of the shine is starting to come off of Jeff Brohm after a loss to Clemson this weekend. It didn't help that Louisville committed ten penalties during the game, and there is clear frustration brewing with the Cardinals' fan base.

No. 5 Glenn Schumann - Georgia

The Georgia defensive coordinator helped the Bulldogs shut down Texas over the weekend and virtually lock up a playoff spot for Georgia.

We still have question marks regarding hiring a coordinator over an established head coach, but Schumann wouldn't be a bad swing to take if one had to.

No. 4 Jedd Fisch - Washington

One week after falling flat on his face against Wisconsin, Washington did rebound for a blowout win over Purdue this weekend.

Even though Fisch is a Florida alum, and even though he is 7-3 with a squad he had to rebuild from scratch, there is still this "it" factor that seems to be missing from Fisch.

No. 3 Brian Hartline - Ohio State

Ohio State might be the most boring No. 1 team in the country in a long time. And we say boring just because they are blowing everyone out and none of their games have been close since Texas.

We would prefer a head coach over a coordinator, but if Florida has to pivot, there is a lot to like about Brian Hartline.

No. 2 Lincoln Riley - USC

Lincoln Riley claims he is not entertaining job offers, and he plans to stay at USC.

He also said the same thing when he was at Oklahoma.

Add in Josh Pate claiming to keep an eye on Riley, and he would be an excellent hire to go get if No. 1 falls through.

No. 1 Lane Kiffin - Ole Miss

Ole Miss won the battle, but are they going to win the war?

As we said all last week, the longer this goes on without Kiffin coming out and saying he is staying in Oxford, the longer he is going to remain at No. 1 on the big board.
