When Florida Football went after Cormani McClain in the transfer portal, everyone knew the Gators were taking a calculated risk. After being a five-star prospect out of Lakeland in the class of 2023, McClain didn't have a great freshman year with Deion Sanders and crew.

Earlier this week, rumblings started to appear that things weren't going great for McCalin behind the scenes in Gainesville. But after a social media rumor started that McClain had been kicked off the team, Florida DB coach Will Harris appears to squashed any credence to the idea.

Florida Football: Checkmate

There are a lot of moving parts going on in the saga of McClain. As a recap, he was an initial lean to the Gators before he committed to Miami, only to shun the Hurricanes on signing day and make his way to Colorado.

His freshman campaign wasn't great and he was one of the lowest rated DBs in the country by Pro Football Focus in 2023. After entering the transfer portal in the spring, Billy Napier and crew opted to take on McClain as a walk on for the 2024 season.

Everyone knew when McClain committed to Florida that it was going to be a project, and a report from Nick de la Torre of On3 over the weekend that indicated things were going poorly for McClain as he was struggling with being on time to team activities among other problems behind the scenes.

Fast forward to today and the X account for Polk Way, an account dedicated to the on goings of Polk County football, that McClain had been removed from the team at Florida.

Over 1,000 likes later, Will Harris took to X and in his typical cryptic manner indicated that McClain was in fact still a member of the Florida Gators.

Zach Abolverdi, also of On3, has also corroborated that McClain is still on the team.

Where there is smoke, there tends to be fire. The idea that McClain has had some struggles since arriving in Gainesville isn't that crazy of an idea. But it is important to remember before anyone starts going after Napier, and we here at Hail Florida Hail have no problem going after Napier, is if McClain does in fact flame out that this was always a low risk investment from the Gators. If it doesn't work out, he is in Gainesville as a walk on and life moves on. If he pans out, then the Gators basically got him for free.

We'll see how his saga unfolds and whether or not any further bumps in the road occur, but for now based on everyone's indications that road has not ended.
