When does March Madness Start? Tipoff dates for men's tournament.

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, commonly known as March Madness, begins on March 17th with Selection Sunday. The selection committee unveils the tournament bracket, outlining the path for the 68 teams vying for the championship.

Two days later, the First Four games determine the final four teams to join the 64-team field. These games will be played in Dayton, OH.


The First and Second Rounds follow from March 21st through the 24th with sites in Brooklyn, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Omaha, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, Spokane, and Memphis.

On March 28th and 29th, the Sweet Sixteen will take place and the Elite Eight takes place on March 30th and 31st, narrowing the field down to four. Boston, Dallas, Detroit, and Los Angeles will be the host sites for these two rounds.

The Final Four, held at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, occurs on April 6th. The two semifinal winners advance to the National Championship Game on April 8th.
