Three former Florida Gators qualify for Olympics with Team USA swimming
One of the advantages of the Florida Gators being an "everything school" is that when the summer Olympics roll around the Gators are always well represented.
With the USA Olympics Trials for swimming taking place right now in Indianapolis, Florida have had three former Gators officially make the squad for Paris next month.
Florida Gators Olympics: Just Keep Swimming
Caeleb Dressel competed last night in the 100 meter freestyle and finished third with a time of 47.53 seconds. While only the top two in each event are granted an automatic spot on Team USA in the swimming events, Dressel is expected to be a member of the 4 X 100 meter relay squad after his third place finish.
The 27 year old has seven gold medals from the previous two Olympics and won ten national titles while with the Gators between 2015 to 2018.
Bobby Finke won two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics in the 800 meter and 1500 meter swim and he too formally has formally punched his ticket to Paris. Finke won the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 7:44.22.
Finke was a member of the Gators from 2018 through 2022 and was an 11-time All American while with the Gators.
As it stands now, Kieran Smith is the third official member of Team USA from the Gators. Similar to Dressel, Smith finished fourth in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:45.61. While he won't compete as an individual, Smith will be a member of the 4 X 200 meter relay team in Paris.
A couple of other Gators, Emma Weyant and Luke Whitlock, swam well enough in their respective events that they, too, will probably be named to Team USA when the squad is formally announced. Both finished second in the respective events, but USA is limited to 26 total swimmers per gender to compete in individual events.
