The bracket for Florida Baseball at the College World Series is set
After navigating their way through a thrilling Super Regional round, Florida Baseball is back in Omaha for the College World Series for the second straight season. And with NC State knocking off Georgia last night, Florida's side of the bracket is officially set as they seek to go all the way this time around.
The first stage of the tournament will follow the same format as Regionals, as the Gators will be in a four team group in a double elimination format. So even though Tennessee, FSU, Virginia, and UNC are also in Omaha, the Gators wouldn't play any of those teams until the championship series.
Texas A&M
Florida opening opponent will be a rematch of the opening SEC series of the season for the Gators. Florida took that series two games to one, but a lot has changed since that series.
Florida had Cade Fisher start game one of that series, Liam Peterson start game two, and Jac Caglianone start game three in one of his best outings of the season. We would assume with how the pitching rotation has been as of late that Peterson would get the start, though given the schedule at the College World Series it wouldn't shock us to see Caglianone get the start.
Texas A&M, meanwhile, saw All-American Braden Montgomery go down with an ankle injury during the Super Regional round, which ended his season.
This game will be on Saturday at 7 PM.
Kentucky
Who are we?
The Wildcats.
Who have never been to the College World Series before?
The Wildcats.
It has been a renaissance season for Kentucky who have almost never been relevant in college baseball prior to this season. This year was just their third appearance ever in the Super Regional round and the first time they had ever won a game in the round.
Florida and Kentucky squared off in the second to last series of the season, with Kentucky winning two game to one. Both games the Gators lost were in extra innings, including game one when Florida had Kentucky down to their final out before giving up a three-run home run.
NC State
Some have dubbed this the revenge tour for the Wolfpack after what happened at the 2021 College World Series. NC State started 2-1 in Omaha and was slated that season to face Vanderbilt with the winner moving on to the championship series. However, due to COVID protocols in place at the time, NC State was forced to withdraw from the tournament.
They are led by long time coach Elliott Avent, who has been in charge in Raleigh since 1997. Though despite being one of the better teams in college baseball, this is only the fourth trip to Omaha ever for the Wolfpack.
