Plenty of recruits have visited Florida Football, but when will the commits happen?
It's the middle of June, and once upon a time nobody would be paying attention to the recruiting efforts of Florida Football in the month of June. But as is the case with a lot of things in college football, June is as massive a recruiting month as any on the calendar.
As it stands now, the Gators are ranked dead last in the SEC in recruiting for their class of 2025. The question is whether Billy Napier's typical pattern is about to repeat itself once again.
Florida Football: Jimmies And The Joes
With just five public commitments, the Gators are one of only two teams in the SEC to currently be in single digits for their class of 2025 (Kentucky being the other with nine commits). It's not cause for a "Dan Mullen recruited better than Billy Napier" piece yet, but the checkpoint that will come close to predicting where Florida will wind up for the 2025 class is fast approaching.
Keep in mind it was June 17 of last year when Austin Simmons flipped his commitment to Ole Miss, followed by a wave of commitments that vaulted Florida up to number three in the country for the class of 2024 (at least at the time).
Well, here we are on June 18 of 2024 and if the Gators are going to get a wave of commits, the time for that wave to come needs to be sometime in the near future.
And the Gators are in the running for guys like Vernell Brown, Tavion Wallace, Ben Hanks and Cortez Mills, in addition to already having a commit from Jalen Wiggins. Florida also has a prediction for Naeshaun Montgomery.
Land these guys and Billy Napier has foundation for a really solid class of 2025. If the Gators miss on these guys, this class is going to start to look real dicey real quick.
June is not a time for panic, but it is a time to be paying attention. If we clear July and Florida is still closer to the bottom of recruiting rankings than they are the top, you have full permission to panic.
The six weeks in between will tell the tale of how we should be feeling, and as Tom Petty once said, the waiting is the hardest part.
