It's so bad we are arguing over who Florida Football chose as captains

Fans aren't happy with who Billy Napier picked as captains against Samford

Since losing to Miami last week, all the knives have been out against Florida Football. Fans have been putting Billy Napier on full blast for getting blown out by Miami, thinking Florida has basements, and trying to make it sound like Florida is closer than we may think.

But in a sign of just how volcanic things are in Gainesville right now, Florida can't even name captains for a game against Samford without sending Gator Nation into a frenzy.

Florida Football: Film Don't Lie

One of the plays that went viral in the aftermath of Florida's loss to Miami was the interception Graham Mertz threw in the third quarter. The play is notable because it is when Mertz sustained his concussion but plenty also took note of the "attempt" some Florida players gave to bring down the Miami ball carrier.

Notably in the crosshairs was Damieon George, who was seen, well, not exactly sprinting to make a tackle.

George moved over to right guard after playing right tackle last season. We noted earlier in the week that Florida ran the ball six times between the right tackle and center, the gap George is responsible for clearing out. Last year, Florida averaged 5.6 yards per carry while running through that gap. On Saturday, it was 3.5 yards per carry.

So his metrics weren't great, and fan perception of him also isn't great after the viral clip that has been seen over five million times.

Let's take a peek at who Napier named captains for their game against Samford.

Um.

Um.

Um.

*Deep Breath*

*Type out a long-winded rant from my basement before deleting it*

*Blink four times*

Just scroll through the comments and quote tweets from Florida's announcement, and you will struggle to find one person who has anything positive to say. From fans to other content creators to even former All-American Shannon Snell, almost everyone is in universal agreement that this feels like Napier pulling a joke on the fanbase.

But it is symbolic of where this program is at right now that even a simple announcement of captains can't go right.

Florida takes on Samford at 7 PM on Saturday. At this rate, there is no telling what controversy is going to materialize from it because every day for the past week has felt like GTA San Andreas with all the dumb stuff that has happened.

And when the captains were announced, the only appropriate reaction was, "Ah ****, here we go again."
