Four schools Florida Football should kick out of the SEC if given full autonomy

The SEC is about to officially be 16 teams. That's too many and we need to get rid of some.

South Carolina

This one pains me a little to put on the list. I've mentioned before on this site that I personally ran XC/Track at Winthrop University, about an hour north of Columbia, South Carolina. I've spent my fair share of time in the capital city of the Palmetto State and know plenty of Gamecock fans.

Which leads me to ask, what of value is South Carolina adding to the SEC?

I'm aware women's basketball is a dominant power, and like many others, they have a good baseball program, but this list is mostly focused on football. Their chief rival, Clemson, is in another conference. The Gamecocks have made it to the SEC championship game once. The only time they have had any sustained relevance is when Steve Spurrier was in charge.

For a school and fan base that actually does care about football, they have been second tier at best during the bulk of their existence in the SEC. And they can't even use location as an excuse as Clemson has two national titles in recent history.

Of the four schools on this list, South Carolina would be the one Gator fans would miss the most. But we aren't getting rid of Tennessee and Georgia because those games carry more weight. Auburn and Alabama are too iconic to kick out. South Carolina could lay claim to being better than Ole Miss and Mississippi State, but at least they have each other. Kentucky is definitely a contender, but they add too much value to basketball. Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU move the needle at the end of the day.

So sorry South Carolina, business is business.
