Former Florida Football coach Steve Spurrier isn't opposed to FSU joining the SEC
As we have chronicled this offseason, while things haven't been great for Florida Football, they at least have conference stability going forward. Of all the programs in the Sunshine State, the Gators are one of the only programs happy with their current conference.
One of the teams desperately trying to get out of their conference is FSU, and Gator legend Steve Spurrier wouldn't mind seeing them join the SEC.
Florida Football: Won't You Be My Neighbor?
Appearing on the YouTube show A Peek Inside Florida Gators Football with Ali Peek, Spurrier was asked what he thought about the possibility of the Seminoles joining the SEC and expanding the conference to 18 teams.
Whereas we here at Hail Florida Hail have previously stated it wouldn't be in Florida's best interest to lend a helping hand to their neighbors to the west, the Head Ball Coach had a bit more welcoming of a tone:
"I think FSU definitely belongs in the SEC. But Clemson sort of belongs there also. But I don’t know if the SEC wants to go to 18 teams. So I don’t know, maybe the Big Ten would like to have them. Who knows? But it is what it is. I think you just go one year at a time and then after that see where you’re at and go from there."

Spurrier also made it know that he thinks FSU would win more games staying in the ACC rather than jump over to the SEC, but he comments were mostly subdued for a man who has never been afraid to troll his opponents.
Would FSU fit within the construct of the SEC? Sure. But make no mistake about it: FSU needs the SEC far more than the SEC is ever going to need FSU.
Plus, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made it known last week during SEC Media Days that he wasn't impressed by FSU's look-at-me routine all offseason.
