Mid week games for Florida Softball often times provide opportunity to work out some things and refine timing, especially early in the season. It is also an opportunity to see what the floor for the season may or may not be.

So beating Jacksonville 10-0 isn't going to make headlines within the college softball world, but it is a sign that the 2024 edition of the Gators is capable of beating down weaker opponents like a strong team should.

Florida Softball: Beat Down

Four batters into the game, Florida already had a 2-0 lead off a double from Jocelyn Erickson. By the time Jacksonville finally achieved three outs, Florida was already up 4-0 and had batting around the line up.

But last season the challenge wasn't just putting up runs, it was keeping opponents off the basepaths. Freshman Ava Brown made sure there was no hope for Jacksonville to make the contest competitive. Brown struck out five, walked three, and gave up just one hit en route to a complete game shutout, the first of her college career.

Regan Walsh mashed out three hits and four RBIs of her own, including a three run homer in the 6th to put Florida up 10-0.

Florida has another matchup with Jacksonville today at home before hosting the Bubly Invitational over the weekend.
