The Florida Gators men’s basketball team will showcase their talents in the 2024 ESPN Events Invitational at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, as announced by ESPN on Thursday. This event will feature the Gators alongside Minnesota, Wake Forest, and Wichita State, with games scheduled for November 28th and 29th, culminating in championship and consolation matchups.

Florida last participated in this invitational in November 2016, securing a third-place finish with notable victories over Seton Hall and Miami (Fla.). This year’s matchups, television designations, and game times are yet to be announced, promising a thrilling reveal as the event approaches.

Historically, the Gators have a balanced record against their fellow competitors. They boast a 1-1 record against Minnesota, with their most recent win occurring in the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Against Wake Forest, the Gators hold a slight edge with a 7-6 all-time record, despite a recent road loss in the ACC-SEC Challenge last season. Florida has dominated Wichita State in their previous encounters, maintaining a perfect 2-0 record.

Entering their third season under the guidance of head coach Todd Golden, the Gators are coming off a successful campaign, including an NCAA Tournament appearance and an impressive 24-win season. Key returning starters Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard are expected to lead the team with their experience and skill.

Additionally, Florida’s nonconference schedule for the 2024-25 season includes a highly anticipated home game against Virginia as part of the SEC-ACC Challenge, further adding to the excitement for the upcoming season.

As Todd Golden enters his third season as head coach, the Gators aim to build on last year’s success and make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, led by returning stars Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard. With a blend of seasoned talent and new challenges, Florida is poised for a great season ahead.
