The University of Florida football program received a significant boost to its 2025 recruiting efforts as three-star tight end Tae'shaun Gelsey announced his commitment to the Gators on Saturday via Instagram Live. Gelsey, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect from Jacksonville, Florida, chose the Gators over other notable programs including Auburn, Tulane, Wake Forest, UCF, and Kentucky.

Ranked as the No. 45 overall tight end in the 2025 class by on3, Gelsey brings an impressive high school resume to Gainesville. In his junior year at Riverside High School, he led the Generals with 48 receptions for 859 yards and tied for the team lead with nine touchdown catches, showcasing his ability as a reliable target in the passing game.

Gelsey's commitment to Florida doesn't come as a surprise to recruiting experts, as Rivals, On3, and 247 Sports had all previously predicted the Gators as his likely destination. The tight end's decision was influenced by his official visit to Florida on June 2, after which he mentioned the program's strong recruiting push.

"With my commitment being in July and coming on the OV this weekend, they've been trying to get me to commit," Gelsey told Gators Illustrated following his visit. Originally planning to announce his decision in early July, Gelsey moved up his commitment date, solidifying his place in Florida's 2025 class.

The addition of Gelsey marks the second tight end commitment for the Gators in just over a week, following three-star prospect Micah Jones' pledge on June 21. This duo likely completes Florida's tight end recruiting for the 2025 class, assuming both commitments hold until signing day.

Florida's offensive scheme, which often utilizes two-tight end sets, appears to be a perfect fit for Gelsey's skillset. On film, he has a great catching radius, and while he may not get quite the separation as some other high-end tight ends, his ability to win 50/50 balls is a major asset to his game. And despite being 6'4", he has some solid open-field moves that make him tricky to try and bring down.

Former Florida Gator Dee Webb, whose cousin is current Gator running back Treyaun Webb, had nothing but high praise for Gelsey as well.

With Gelsey's commitment, Florida now holds eight total pledges for the 2025 class, including five on the offensive side of the ball. While the Gators' 2025 recruiting class currently ranks No. 65 nationally according to 247 Sports, experts anticipate a significant rise in the rankings following the recent commitments of Gelsey, Jones, and four-star receiver Joshua Moore.
