The spring transfer portal has been a quiet one for Florida Football. Billy Napier has had just two players enter the portal while simultaneously slow rolling their way through grabbing anyone out of the portal to join the team.

There is a narrative to be made the Florida needed to be more aggressive in a couple key areas, but we would take the tranquility in Gainesville compared to the wild west happening in Coral Gables.

Florida Football: And I Ran, I Ran So Far Away...

Florida's main exodus came during the winter period when 21 players hopped into the portal, with notables like Princely Umanmielen and Trevor Etienne among them. Mannie Nunnery and Ethan Pouncey are the only two Gators who opted to leave town following the spring game, Nunnery with a bit more angst than Pouncey, and it speaks to the fact that no matter what we as fans may believe on the outside that the guys who have stayed are committed to the cause Napier is selling.

Compare that with Florida's week one opponent, Miami.

Cam Ward headlines the 13 transfer portal gets the Hurricanes have grabbed in the offseason, but the outflowing of players has been at such a breakneck pace that Hurricane writers can barely keep up.

The spring cycle alone has seen 13 players depart Mario Cristobal and crew while bringing in just four. The Hurricanes have had a total of 27 players leave this offseason while bringing in the previously mentioned 13.

Miami fans may write off these transfers as "guys who got beat out," but it leaves the Hurricanes with next to zero depth heading into the 2024 campaign. As a reminder to Miami fans, think of every comment you have made regarding how bad Florida's roster was in 2023. Got it locked in your head?

Florida also had 27 players transfer out in 2023.

The transfer portal can allow for a roster reset but the reality is that reset takes time to gel. And considering coming out of the spring season the Hurricanes are still flipping their roster, they won't have much time to gel ahead their August 31st date with the Gators in The Swamp.
