Despite all the frustrations Florida Football fans have had with special teams for the Gators, Billy Napier has kept a positive tone. He has acknowledged some organizational flaws, but he has also pointed to the overall metrics being solid for the unit.

At the head of that unit are Trey Smack and Jeremy Crawshaw, two of the best kickers in the country. One made the national watchlist for his position; the other was inexplicably left off.

Florida Football: Watch This

Smack wasn't the starting kicker for the Gators to being the 2023 campaign, but after Adam Mihalek struggled the reigns were handed over to Smack.

Smack made 17 of his 21 attempts, including two out of three from beyond 50 yards, and was 11 for 11 from inside 40 yards. He has been named to the Lou Groza Award preseason watchlist, handed out to the best place kicker in the country at the end of the season.

Crawshaw, meanwhile, had 42 punts for 2,052 yards. His average of 48.9 yards per punt was the second most in the country, and he was one of just 22 punters who had an average of over 45 yards.

Thirty-three punters were named to the Ray Guy Award watchlist for the best punter in the country, yet for some unknown reason, Crawshaw wasn't included on the list.

Wait what?

Do you Ray Guy, do you. But this is an absurd omission and makes no sense from the committee.

Florida opens their season on August 31 against Miami, and if all goes well, they won't have to send Crawshaw on the field.
