Florida Football reminded UCF why they are the forgotten cousin in perpetuity

Coming into the contest against UCF, there was a lot of uncertainty and a lack of faith in Florida Football. Sure, Billy Napier had said practice the past two weeks had been intense, but we had heard that from him far too often to take it at face value.

So, while there are areas we can nitpick, and a victory in The Swamp doesn't guarantee a victory in Knoxville next week, what Saturday night proved is that Florida at its worst is still ten times better than UCF at whatever they consider themselves to be at in 2024.

Florida Football: Sit Down, Be Humble

When UCF beat Florida in the 2021 Gasparilla Bowl, Knights fans convinced themselves it was the greatest thing that had ever happened. Nevermind that Florida had fired its coach and half the players were thinking about the transfer portal, that game was proof that UCF had surpassed Florida in the minds of fans from Orlando.

So... should we ask what Saturday in The Swamp proved?

98% of the fanbase wants Napier fired, and yet even he was able to pacify the University of Central Florida.

Florida did everything it could to invite UCF back into the game in the second half, but the school formerly known as the Golden Knights said, "Nah, no thanks."

The Gators were missing 13 players due to injury, and UCF still looked like the far inferior roster.

All we have heard since 2017 is how there should be a Big Four in Florida. But when the lights turned bright in the The Swamp and the Knights had their opportunity, they looked like the Knight from Monty Python rather than a team we should ever speak of again.

ESPN said it best as the clock hit zero; this is tap-out season.

UCF tapped out in Gainesville.

Florida fans should tap into the fact that they don't have to respect UCF in the foreseeable future.
