Florida Football has had its eyes on a number of defensive backs during the class of 2025, and we are getting to the part of the year where decisions have to be made.

With a potential official visit on the horizon, one defensive back the Gators have offered is set to make his verbal commitment soon.

Florida Football: Luck Of The Irish

We profiled defensive back Mark Zackery back in February when the Gators made an offer. Back in February, we said:

"Based on film, we would probably agree closer to the On3 and ESPN evaluation. Zackery will play a combination of press coverage and inside technique for Ben Davis High. Given his size, he doesn't overpower opposing wide receivers when in press coverage but he is able to stick to them like glue.

When playing off coverage, Zackery maintains fluidity in his hips and does well to break on the ball when needed. He is a willing tackler, though the bulk of his tackles are diving ankle tackles, something that won't always work in the SEC."

247 Sports has him as the 59th ranked prospect in the country while ESPN has him at 257th.

Since getting offered by the Gators, Zackery has yet to take an unofficial visit to Gainesville, compared to the six visits he has taken to in-state Notre Dame. As such, almost every recruiting insider has predictions logged that on May 25th, when he announces his verbal commitment, he will be committing to the Irish.

As of now, Zackery does have an official visit lined up with the Gators at the end of June. Whether or not he will go through with the visit after he commits or if Florida intends to keep pushing hard is up in the air.

If Zackery does commit to Notre Dame, just be prepared for the graphic to say "over Florida." Such is life in Gator Nation.
