Once upon a time, it seemed certain that Florida Football was going to land Cormani McClain. The five-star cornerback from Lakeland was considered a heavy favorite to come to Gainesville before a long winding saga landed him in Colorado.

After seeing minimal playing time while in Boulder, McClain is in the transfer portal looking for a new home.

In March of 2022, Josh Newberg of 247 logged a crystal ball prediction that McClain would wind up as a Gator. McClain would make an unofficial visit to Florida in April and in September that year, but in October he announced he would be committing to Miami.

Up until early national signing day, it appeared McClain would be sticking with his Miami commitment. But McClain never made it to Coral Gables as he delayed putting his pen to paper and eventually stunned the college football world when he announced he would be going to Colorado instead.

His time in Boulder was anything but smooth sledding as he played in nine games, starting in four. When Colorado coach Deion Sanders was asked early in the season about whether McClain was going to see more playing time, Sanders didn't hold back on the freshman.

"No (McClain isn’t ready). The plan at corner is corner by committee. This is why we practice, we’re going to see who steps up and who takes over that role...He is. He is (holding himself back)"

McClain finished the season with 277 defensive snaps and was graded out by PFF with the 11th lowest grade in the country among cornerbacks who took at least 250 snaps in 2023.

He will still have three seasons of eligibility left and is bound to draw some interest as a reclamation project given the potential he had coming out of high school.
