Florida Football lands high upside linebacker Myles Johnson from Alabama
Even though it is July, the need to start rounding out the class of 2025 for Florida Football is starting to hasten. The Gators have the fewest amount of commits in the SEC and are ranked next to last, ahead of only Vanderbilt.
Slowly but surely though the Gators are staring to put pieces into place and just landed a linebacker who was previously committed to Alabama.
Florida Football: A New Beginning
Myles Johnson is a 6'1" linebacker listed at 220 pounds out of Brewton, AL. Johnson is a three-star with On3, Rivals, and ESPN while 247 has him as a four-star. He was previously committed to Alabama when Nick Saban was still the coach, but after missing the 2023 season due to a knee injury there wasn't much interest from new Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer.
Based on his 2022 film from his sophomore season, there are reasons to see why Saban initially wanted Johnson. He has the capability of being a physical linebacker who can shoot through the gap to make the play or shed a blocker to wind up with the same result. But it is also his ability to stay patient and wait out a play that should translate well at the college level.
Given the lack of a 2023 season, it isn't unfair to classify Johnson as a three-star for now, but the potential for a big 2024 season is there. He was back on the track this past March following his ACL surgery and ran 11.15 seconds in the 100 meter dash, which isn't bad for a 220 pound linebacker coming off ACL surgery.
Florida is now up to nine commits for the class of 2025 with three on the defensive side. Johnson joins Jeramiah McCloud and Jalen Wiggins as commits on the defensive side for 2025.
