Shortly after Florida football picked up the commitment from San Diego State offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, Billy Napier and crew took a look at all of us who were wondering if the Gators were ever going to sign someone from the transfer portal, did his best Usher impersonation and went "Watch this."

The Gators got a transfer portal win late Sunday evening as defensive lineman Joey Slackman announced that he would be joining the Gators in 2024.

Florida Football: No Slack

Slackman is considered a top 25 overall player in the 2024 transfer portal and the 8th best defensive lineman in the portal according to 247 Sports.

We touched on Slackman's backstory last week, but when he originally arrived at the University of Pennsylvania, he thought he was going to be a wrestler. He was a state champion in New York in wrestling while he was in high school.

But it turns out that dudes who are 6'4" and 300 pounds make good defensive linemen and Slackman eventually found his way back onto the football field for Penn.

In 2023 he was the defensive player of the year in the Ivy league, racking up 50 tackles, 12 of which were for a loss. He also had 11 hurries on the season.

Slackman should be in line for solid playing time in 2024, with Princely Umanmielen, Will Norman, and Chris McClellan all departing the Gators in the transfer portal.

After their slow start to the portal, especially compared to what Ole Miss is doing, Florida seems to have its ball starting to roll. Former Gator Michael Tarquin is back in the portal and has been projected by On3 to sign once again with Florida. Defensive back Trikweze Bridges from Oregon took a visit to Gainesville last week and he too is projected to commit with Florida football.
