You have probably heard once or twice over the past couple of months that Florida Football is lagging behind in recruiting for the 2025 cycle. With just nine verbal commitments, the Gators are tied for the least amount of commits in the SEC.

The Gators are banking on a number of later commits to fall their way and one of the biggest targets on their board is set to commit on Sunday.

Florida Football: In The Family

We have talked about Vernell Brown III quite few times here at Hail Florida Hail. A top 40 overall prospect with three of the four major services, he is the son of former Florida Gator Vernell Brown Jr.

Florida's pursuit of Brown has had its ups and downs. Back in March, it looked like Ohio State was in the lead for the Orlando native, and FSU and Miami have been in pursuit as well. Since June, insiders have indicated Florida as the favorite for the legacy prospect, and multiple predictions have been logged in Florida's favor.

Brown is set to commit on Sunday, and while you may not be one who cares deeply about recruiting in July, the reality is that there has been a paradigm shift over the last two or three years with when teams need to have the bulk of their class locked in. If the Gators can land Brown and a couple of other top 100 prospects they are seemingly in the lead for, Florida should start to move up the recruiting rankings, and there will be no need for alarm.

But if Brown chooses anyone but Florida, alarm bells will need to start going off about the class of 2025, and serious questions will be raised about what is going on with Billy Napier's recruiting.

That's why this announcement is massive for Napier as he looks for all the positive headlines he can get heading into a pivotal 2024 season.

Brown is expected to make his announcement around 2 PM on Sunday.
