Florida football: Could the Gators make a push for Domani Jackson in the transfer portal?
By Will Thomas
Florida football has started to gain some momentum in the transfer portal after a slow and frustrating start when the window opened.
They've gained three commitments in the last 48 hours, and still have a handful of targets in the portal that they want to go after.
One name that may be a long shot is reportedly expected to enter the transfer portal in the near future, and will be one of the best DBs available.
Domani Jackson, who was a top five overall recruit in the 2022 class, is expected to transfer away from USC. If the Gators want to make a big splash in the portal, Jackson is the guy they can do it with.
Florida football: Make your own luck
Jackson is originally from California and stayed in-state out of high school. Once he officially enters the portal, the early favorites will likely be other west coast schools.
But if the Gators want to turn the program around and get back to national relevance, they need to be willing to fly out to Santa Ana and make a pitch to Domani.
New Gators' DB coach Will Harris has already brought some optimism to the Gators on the trail and secured a commitment from Oregon transfer Trikweze Bridges.
Now he has a chance to really generate some buzz if he can get Florida in the sweepstakes for Domani.
In two years with the Trojans, Jackson has a total of 34 tackles and four pass breakups, most of which came this past season in his sophomore year.
Again, Domani isn't going to reach out to the Gators' staff and ask if they're interested. This is a guy that Florida is going to have to go out and get. He won't just fall into UF's lap.
We'll find out how much work the Gators are willing to put into the portal as Jackson's portal recruitment begins.
