The Florida Gators football program is making a significant push to secure the commitment of elite wide receiver prospect Vernell "Trey" Brown III. The four-star recruit from Orlando, Florida, recently completed an official visit to Gainesville, and indications suggest the Gators have positioned themselves as frontrunners in his recruitment.

Brown, ranked as the 35th best player nationally and the 6th best wide receiver in the 2025 class, has deep ties to the University of Florida. He is the son of former UF defensive back Vernell Brown Jr. and the grandson of former player Vernell Brown Sr. Despite these connections, Brown maintains that family history won't be the deciding factor in his choice.

"I don't think they'll be mad or hurt," Brown said of his family's reaction if he chooses another school. "They will completely understand it. They've been very supportive and haven't shown any bias towards Florida."

However, Steve Wiltfong of On3 logged a prediction on Sunday that Brown is going to wind up a Gator. This dropped as Brown was wrapping up his official visit with FSU.

Brown has seen his ranking shoot up this off season. When we profiled him back in February we said:

"His burst off the line is immediate and his speed to get behind secondaries causes consistent problems for opponents. When in space, opponents have zero hope of tackling him and every time he touches the ball is a chance for six points."

Brown has a play style similar to current Gator receiver Eugene Wilson III, and Brown noted too that as a positive aspect from his visit.

While Florida's recent on-field performance (5-7 record last season) might be a concern for some recruits, Brown sees it as an opportunity. "I think there's beauty in helping build that. Kind of bringing it back, for lack of better words," he stated, showing maturity in his approach to the recruitment process.

Brown's top four schools include Florida, Ohio State, Miami, and Florida State. The wide receiver has indicated that he intends to commit sometime in July.
