The long and winding season for Florida Basketball has come to an end and such is life in the modern era the transfer portal is alive and well. We here at Hail Florida Hail have highlighted a handful of prospects the Gators have their eye on, but just like the portal can giveth it can taketh.

Today Florida learned that former top 50 overall prospect Riley Kugel will be entering his name into the portal.

Florida Basketball: Farewell

Out of Orlando, Kugel was seen as a prized prospect that many Gator fans hoped would take a leap this season after a respectable freshman campaign. He scored 23 points in the season opener against Loyola Maryland, and had 25 points against Baylor and 24 points against Wake Forest during Florida's non-conference slate.

But Kugel's inconsistency on the court eventually cost him his starting spot once SEC play began. His turnover to assist ratio was in the negative and he had a four game stretch against Richmond, East Carolina, Michigan, and Quinnipiac where he went a combined 0-18 from three.

Eventually Kugel had his minutes reduced to single digits against Alabama and Vanderbilt, but he did play for 21 minutes in Florida's loss to Colorado in the NCAA Tournament and scored 11 points.

He will still have two years of eligibility remaining.
