One of the adages to the college basketball season is that while most fans may not be super in tune with what is happening in November, the games do matter in the eyes of the NCAA Tournament committee. For example, Florida Basketball knocked off Pitt 86-71 in the NIT Season Tip-Off back on 11/22, a win that drew minimal traction at the time.

But as the season is winding down, that victory over Pitt is turning into another significant feather in the cap of the Gators season.

Florida Basketball: Quad 1 Win

In recent years the NCAA has placed emphasis on their NET rankings and from that has been an emphasis on Quad wins. There are four quads, with Quad 1 victories being the golden goose.

A Quad 1 win is defined as beating a team ranked 1-30 at home, 1-50 on a neutral site, or 1-75 on the road.

Florida's win over Pitt was on a neutral court. The Panthers are now 17-8 and have been creeping up the NET rankings themselves. With the latest update they are now ranked 47th.

That gives Florida a top 50 win on a neutral court and as such, Florida now has credit for three Quad 1 wins.

This is all subject to change and Pitt could fall back down to Quad 2 territory, but if Gators fans are looking to root for other teams that can help Florida's cause, keep an eye on Pitt as the season winds down.
