Five storylines to follow for Florida Football in 2024
Can The Gators Avoid The Fatal Mistake?
Too many times under Billy Napier, the Gators have been prone to commit the fatal mistake that was entirely preventable. Among their greatest hits are throwing a pick-six against Kentucky, fumbling a punt into the endzone against Vanderbilt, putting two players with the same number on the field against Utah, and not knowing when to put the field goal unit on the field against Arkansas.
Most fans can rationalize things like poor tackling or bad offensive line play as just not having the talent on the roster. But mistakes like the ones mentioned above, and there are many more we could chronicle, often have little to do with talent and a lot to do with coaching.
If Napier and crew can avoid these errors, wins will follow. If these errors continue, there will be little defense Napier could offer that fans would be interested in hearing.
If They Build It, Will Recruits Come?
Let's pretend the Gators' season goes well, and Florida starts to win some games that the outside world doesn't believe they will. It will be cathartic for fans, but are recruits going to take notice?
While the Gators have started to rack up some recruits, they are still 15th out of 16 in the 247 Composite Rankings. The narrative that seems to be floating around is that several prospects the Gators are looking at are waiting to see how the season plays out before they commit.
Florida is banking on that being the case, even if it creates an uneasy situation for fans looking at their 2025 class.
