Five recent reclamation projects for Florida Football that didn't pan out
Demarkcus Bowman
In recent years, there might not have been a local prospect more hyped than Demarkcus Bowman. The running back out of Lakeland had every physical tool one could ask for out of a five-star recruit. He had speed, he had power, and he had Gator fans dreaming of what he could look like in blue and orange.
Bowman wound up committing to Clemson but only lasted there for two games before he was in the transfer portal. He wound up in Gainesville ahead of the 2021 season but only appeared in five games with 14 carries.
He never made it to a second season with Florida as he was back in the transfer portal in June of 2022. After a pit stop at UCF last season that had him carry the ball ten times total, Bowman left the Knights back in April and doesn't appear to be on a D1 roster ahead of the 2024 season.
Jack Miller
A former four-star QB out of Arizona, Jack Miller originally committed to Ohio State as part of the class of 2020. He was beat out by Justin Fields and C.J. Stroud while in Columbus, so there was some hope when Miller transferred to Florida that it was a case of a talented QB who just got stuck behind other elite talent.
In 2022 he was stuck behind Anthony Richardson and in 2023 behind Graham Mertz, but because of injuries combined with poor showings at spring games, Miller wasn't even viewed as the primary back up by the time his career was over.
Miller graduated last year and ended his college career with 20 total completions.
