Five personnel changes Florida Football should consider ahead of Samford
Dijon Johnson for Ja'Keem Jackson
One of the early adversities Florida had to deal with was a first-half injury to Devin Moore. We won't know the extent of Moore's injury until further down the road, but it was Ja'Keem Jackson who was tabbed as the next man up.
Jackson was targeted six times and gave up four receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Dijon Johnson is a former top 125 prospect who was relegated mostly to special teams last year. He played 14 snaps against Miami with two tackles. If Moore is out for an extended time, we would like to see Johnson get a chance in the secondary.
Kamran James or Tyreak Sapp for George Gumbs
When Florida grabbed George Gumbs out of the transfer portal, Gator fans universally went, "Who?" His story is a fun one, as he was a former three-star wide receiver when he committed to Northern Illinois and transformed from 185 pounds to a 249-pound defensive end.
But he was always seen as a project, and it was evident on Saturday that he was an incomplete project. Gumbs had the sixth-most snaps of any Florida player on the defensive side, with 37.
And in those 37 snaps, he had one tackle and two hurries.
Tyreak Sapp had two tackles, two hurries, and a sack in just 21 snaps, while Kamran James also had two tackles and an assist in just 23 snaps.
Gumbs is listed as a Jack, while Sapp and James are listed as a traditional end, but if there is a will, there is a way, and they need to somehow be on the field ahead of Gumbs.
