2019 - Miami

As mentioned in the intro, the 90s and 2000s were filled with a long string of uninteresting season openers against uninteresting opponents. Florida did play Michigan in 2017, but they lost that game.

And even though the 2019 opener against Miami wasn’t the cleanest game of football you will ever see, and tackling was a problem for both teams on the day, there’s no mistaking that the atmosphere in Orlando was electric that day as the Gators prevailed 24-20.

Florida came from behind twice in the second half, and Feleipe Franks had the game-winning touchdown on a three-yard run.

Florida would go on to finish the season 11-2.

2022 - Utah

We all told lies on this night.

After the way, the 2021 season ended, Gator fans were to the moon after Florida’s win over Utah in the 2022 opener. Anthony Richardson was electric, Billy Napier was aggressive in his playcalling, and when Amari Burney picked off a pass in the end zone to seal the game, The Swamp was as loud as it has ever been.

Florida would stumble and bumble its way to a six- and seven-season record, while Utah went on to win the 2022 PAC 12 title.
