Some QBs are great. Some QBs are bad. Then some QBs are just thoroughly average

During the history of Florida Football, the Gators have had some legends play the quarterback position. Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel, Rex Grossman, Kyle Trask, and Steve Spurrier are among some of the all time greats to play the position.

As we chronicled last season in our piece "Five worst QBs in Gators history," there have been some clunkers to take snaps under center.

But what about the guys in the middle? The guys who weren't great but also weren't the worst.

The following are the five most mediocre QB in Florida history. To be eligible for this list, we looked at the 30 Gators who have attempted at least 200 passing attempts in their career at Florida. Sorry, Bob Hewko, but you would have been a great contender.

Emory Jones

  • 2018 to 2021
  • 3,347 Passing Yards
  • 64% Completion Rate
  • 26 TD/14 INT

If you want to go on pure metrics, Emory Jones was as effective as Anthony Richardson was. Jones had a much better completion rate than Richardson, his yards per attempt was similar, and his 1,272 rushing yards are the second most ever for a Florida Gator quarterback (some guy named Tim had more)

But Jones also benefited from Dan Mullen scheming an offense to hide his weaknesses, such as hitting receivers in stride deep, and six of his 19 touchdowns in 2021 came against Samford. Take out that game, and his touchdown-to-interception ratio was even at 13 each.
