Five fun facts about Florida Football ahead of its matchup against UCF
After a bye week, Florida Football is set to return this Saturday to The Swamp with a game against UCF at 7:45.
Based upon notes put out by Florida's communications department, the following are five fun facts about the upcoming matchup between the Gators and the Knight.
All-Time Series
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between Florida and UCF in football. Florida won 58-27 in 1999 and 42-0 in 2006. Both of those games were played in The Swamp
UCF won the last meeting between the two schools 29-17 in 2021 in the Gasparilla Bowl. Florida had interim coach Gregg Knox leading the way for that game after Dan Mullen had been fired.
First Time For Everything
Billy Napier and Gus Malzahn have never squared off before when both have been the head coach. The two have been on opposing sidelines six prior times in various capacities.
Napier is 4-2 in those meetings.
Why Can't We Be Friends?
Florida offensive tackle Devon Manuel and UCF QB KJ Jefferson were both teammates for the past three seasons at Arkansas and were with the Razorbacks last year when they beat the Gators in overtime.
Both transferred to their new school at the end of the season. Jefferson is the starting quarterback for UCF, while Manuel has been used in rotation along the offensive line.
You Look Familiar
Trent Whittemore played for Florida for four seasons before transferring to UCF before the 2023 season. During his time with Florida, Whittemore had 33 catches and two touchdowns.
Since transferring to UCF, he has had five catches across two seasons, including a 51-yard catch last week against Colorado.
So Toxic
There has been talk that Florida fans are toxic, but despite a 2-2 start on the season and Billy Napier being 13-16 as the head coach of the Florida Gators, Saturday will mark the 9th straight sellout at The Swamp
