Doug Johnson

Perhaps the player that best parallels Rhodes on this list is going to be Doug Johnson.

Sandwiched between Danny Wuerffel and Rex Grossman, Johnson was solid enough during his time at Florida and is still 10th on the career passing yards list and 7th in career touchdowns. Heading into his senior season for the 1999 campaign, Johnson was is position to try and lead Florida to another national championship.

Florida started out the season 8-1, with a lone loss to Alabama in overtime. But with number one ranked FSU and a rematch against Alabama in the SEC title game on the horizon, Johnson would be able to finish the story by winning out and making it to the BCS title game.

Except he was benched for Jesse Palmer against South Carolina after Florida only beat Vanderbilt 13-6. The following week, head coach Steve Spurrier rotated both Johnson and Palmer against FSU, but the Gators fell 30-23.

Johnson was benched for good in the SEC title game as Florida was smacked 34-7.
