Explosive WR Dane Jones setting up official visit to see Florida football
By Will Thomas
Florida football made recruiting the state of Texas an emphasis in the 2024 cycle, going out west to bring in some of the top talent in the country.
Billy Napier and his staff are sticking true to that strategy again in 2025, and are making major moves on a speedy wideout from Pearland, Texas.
Dane Jones, from Ridge Point High School, is a 3-star wideout in the '25 cycle who has the Gators up very high on his list to this point.
The Gators will receive an official visit from Jones, and hope to be a major player in his recruitment all the way to the end.
Florida football: Electricity down the field
Sure, Dane may not have the stars and the rankings of some of the other wide receivers that the Gators are after in this cycle.
On3's Industry Ranking has him as the 463rd-best player in the country, the 71st-best wideout in the class, and the 78th-best player coming out of Texas.
But if you look at what he's able to produce on the field, you start to realize why the Gators are so interested in him.
In his junior season, Jones caught 50 passes for 825 yards (16.5 yards per catch) and 13 touchdowns over the course of 12 games.
Those are the types of numbers that some of the best wideouts in the class have on their stat sheet as well. Where Jones gets knocked down a few pegs in the rankings is his size, currently standing at 5'11''-174.
With time, he will be able to add more mass to his frame and become strong enough to play receiver in the SEC.
In-state schools SMU and Baylor currently lead the charge in Dane's recruitment, with the Gators rounding out the top three.
With an official visit in the future, Florida will likely be in Dane's recruitment all the way.
